Accommodation
The size of London is 1738km² with a population of just fewer than 9 million people. Istanbul is 5343km² with a population of just over 14 million people. Needless to say….Istanbul is pretty darn large. So, when it comes to choosing somewhere to rest your tired bones each evening you may need some help….and we are on hand.
Where to stay in Istanbul?
If you would like to spend some time seeing the sights and playing tourist, as well coming for the wedding, then it would make more sense to stay in/around the Old City. The Old City itself is called Sultanahmet. Many of the tourist attractions are within walking distance; however, it is very touristy.
It is obviously your choice, however, we would recommend that you stay a short tram ride away in the district of BeyoÄŸlu. This area also has some tourist attractions as well as less touristy cafes, bars, and restaurants. Also, the wedding venue is more easily reached from BeyoÄŸlu. Areas you might consider are:
-
Galata
-
Taksim
-
ÅžiÅŸhane
-
Karaköy
-
Osmanbey
-
Cihangir
If helpful, the groom and his family will be staying in the area of Galata at House Hotel Galatasaray
(Address: Firuzağa Mah. Bostanbaşı Cad. No:19 Beyoğlu 34425 Istanbul, Turkey)
Although we would not recommend staying near the venue - simply as it is far from tourist attractions, you are, of course, welcome to do so. If you choose to do this, please stay near to the area of Istinye as this is where you will take the boat to the venue. The venue, itself, is on the Asian side of Istanbul. The following areas are close to the boat pick up, although they would still a require a short taxi ride to get there.
-
İstınye
-
Yenikoy
-
Tarabya
-
Bebek
What type of accommodation should I choose?
As well as hotels, bed & breakfasts, and guest houses, there are many apartments available in Istanbul . For people who are happy to be in a group, it may make more sense to hire an apartment. Similarly, there are many very modern hostels in Istanbul. Many are on par with to an average hotel, clean, well located, and have private rooms...but are far cheaper in cost. Another option is to use a social accommodation service called Air BnB, where local people will rent out a bedroom in their home or an entire apartment.

Staying at Double Tree Hilton Istanbul - Old Town?
If you are staying at the Hilton Istanbul, we would recommend taking public transport if you are arriving on Friday or on a different day around rush hours 4pm onwards.
The route is fairly simple from Ataturk Airport:
1. At the airport, follow signs for the Metro station
2. Be sure to have some Turkish lira available as you will need this to buy Jeton tokens or the Istanbul Card for the public transport - see 'Knowing Istanbul' for more detail about the transport system
3. Take the Metro - Mla (red line). It is the only line available so you can't get it wrong!
4. Change at Zeytinburnu to the tram (T1 - blue line) heading to Kabatas.
5. Your closest stop to the hotel is Laleli-Universite
6. The across from the station on the main road (Ordu Caddesi)
